Navigate the main Search page

What's inside this article:

Basic information

This article describes the options that are available on the main Search page in Pangea CMS.

Search is the first page you see after opening a site in Pangea CMS. To access Search from another page, hit Search in the primary navigation.

Run a search

The items you see in the main window (search results) are set according to the search filters at the side of the screen.

By default, you see all content created by the current site site in the last 30 days. Adjust the search filters to see different results, for example:

  • See content published by other sites.
  • See only a specific content type (such as Articles).
  • See only content published in the last 24 hours.

The filters can be combined for more precise results, for example:

  • See only Articles published in the last 24 hours.
  • See only Articles published in the last 24 hours by a specific author.

For detailed information, see the following articles:

Edit content

You can start editing an existing content item (created by the current site) directly from the Search screen.

Either hit the title, or select the Edit button in the item box.

For information about the different content types, see the following articles:

Text content:

Article | Backgrounder | Blog | FactCheck | Feature | Feature story | Live blog | News | Transcript

Multimedia content:

Audio clip | Audio feature | Broadcast program | Document | Image | Loop video | Photo gallery | Slider gallery | Video

Interactive content:

Dynamic infographics | Poll | Quiz | Snippet | Static infographics

View content on the public site

To open a content page on the public site, hit the Live site button in the item box. The content page opens in a new tab.

This option is only available for content pages with the Published status.

Check the publication status

Each item has a publication status. The publication status is represented by the icon next to the title. Hover over the icon to see the exact status.

You might see the following statuses:

  • (A): Draft: The item is in draft and is not accessible on the public site. This status signals that the content is still in progress.
  • (B): Edited: The item is in draft and is not accessible on the public site. This status signals that the content is ready for the attention of a reviewer.
  • (C): Published: The item is published and accessible on the public site.
  • (D): Scheduled: The item is not yet accessible on the public site. Publication is scheduled for a specific time and date. Learn more.
  • (E): Stealth published (videos only): The video is available to embed on pages as supporting content. Learn more.

You might see the following technical statuses for multimedia content (Videos, Audio clips, and Documents). These statuses show the progress of the file upload:

  • (A): Upload cancelled: The upload of this file was manually canceled.
  • (B): Processing item...: CMS is currently processing and encoding this file.
  • (C): Uploading...: CMS is still uploading this file.
  • (D): Upload failed: The upload of this file failed.

You can set the search filters to quickly find content with a particular status. For details, see the following article:

Special rules apply for finding content with the Scheduled status. For details, see the following article:

Check the approval status

Published content in Pangea CMS might have an approval status. An approval status signals that the content is published with unpublished changes saved internally in CMS.

You might see the following approval statuses:

  • (A): In progress: The creator is still working on the changes. The content is not yet ready for the attention of a reviewer.
  • (B): Pending approval: The changes are complete and the creator has requested approval. The content is waiting for the attention of a reviewer.

For detailed information about the Content approval process for published content, see the following article:

Copy a mirror URL

Many Pangea sites have mirror sites. A mirror site looks the same as the regular site but has a different URL (called a mirror URL). The mirror URL is accessible in regions where the main site domain is blocked by local authorities.

The Copy mirror URL button might be available for content that was published by a site with an active mirror site. When you click this button, the current mirror URL for the content is copied to your clipboard. This is helpful for sharing the content in regions where the main site domain is blocked.

NOTE: This feature must be enabled and configured for the site that published the content. Contact Pangea Customer Care for more details.

Copy or clone content

You can make a copy / clone of an item that was published by another site under the same entity. For example, a site under the entity RFE/RL might make a copy of an Article that was published by another RFE/RL site. You can also make a copy of an item that was published by your own site.

The following basic rules apply for copying / cloning:

  • Copying: The copy and the original are treated as separate items. Updates to the original item do not affect the copy.
  • Cloning: The clone remains connected to the original item. The clone will inherit updates from the original item.

Select the Make a copy of item / Make a clone of item button in the item box to make a copy or clone of the item.

You cannot choose between copying and cloning. Only one option is available, depending on the content type. For details, see the following article:

Unlock content

As soon as you start editing an item, Pangea CMS locks the item so other users cannot edit it at the same time.

If an item is locked for editing by another CMS user, the box is gray. The box also includes the extra Unlock and Read only buttons.

To learn how to manage locked content, see the following article:

Manage autosave items

Autosave applies while you edit the following types of content in Pangea CMS:

  • Article
  • Backgrounder
  • Blog
  • Feature
  • Feature story
  • News
  • Transcript

While you edit, CMS creates a new autosave version every 60 seconds. If you leave the edit page unexpectedly (for example, if you accidently close the brower window), the most recent autosave version is kept. When you next open CMS, the autosave item will be available at the top of the main Search page. This reduces the loss of unsaved work.

NOTE: Your autosave items are visible only for you.
