Basic information
This article explains how to search for images in Pangea CMS.
To learn how to search for content, see the alternative article below:
Search for images
To search for images:
- Select the Image tab.
- If needed, hit Clear to clear existing search filters.
- According to your needs, enter keywords / adjust filters.
- Hit Search.
The results refresh to match your search criteria. You can sort the results if needed.
Search by keywords
Keyword search in Pangea CMS works as follows:
- The results will show all valid images with a match for your keywords in at least one of the following fields:
- Title
- Description
- You can enter a single keyword or a phrase. If you enter a phrase, consider surrounding the phrase with quotes ("") for more precise results. For example, if you enter "cats are wonderful creatures" (with quotes), the results will include only items that contain this exact phrase. If you enter the same phrase without quotes, the results might also show items that contain all these keywords separately in a different order.
- The results will only show items with an exact match for your search query. For example, if you enter "Zelenskyy", your results will not show items that use other spellings (such as "Zelensky" or "Zelenskyi").
- For most images, the Title is provided in English. For this reason, you normally need to search in English. The image Description might also include text in other languages (if this data was manually provided at upload).
Clear search filters
After you run a search, your filters will be saved and stored for future searches. If you do not want to use the previous filters, you can clear them before running a new search. To quickly clear the filters, hit the Clear button.
After you hit Clear, the default filters are restored. According to the default filters, the results show all images uploaded by sites under your entity.
Sort results
In the Sort by menu, you can set the order of the results.
The following options are available:
- Latest modified: Sort images from newest to oldest, based on when the image settings were last updated.
- First modified: Sort images from oldest to newest, based on when the image settings were last updated.
- Latest published: Sort images from newest to oldest, based on when the image was uploaded.
- First published: Sort images from oldest to newest, based on when the image was uploaded.
Search filters: Overview
You can use filters to find specific images.
The following filters are available for an image search:
- Entity: Show images from a different entity.
- Site: Show images from another site under your entity, show images from all sites under your entity, or show only images from the current site.
- Date: Select a time period and choose your preferred option:
- Date taken: The results will only show images that were taken during your selected time period. This is based on the "Date taken" setting, which is set manually at upload.
- Date of upload: The results will only show images that were uploaded during your selected time period. This is based on data that is set automatically at upload.

- Include deleted content: If you tick this option, the results will include images that were previously deleted from Pangea CMS. You will have the option to restore a deleted image.
Find external images
External images are images from supported external agencies. Pangea CMS allows you to use images from the following entities:
- AFP (Agence France-Presse)
- AP (Associated Press)
- Reuters
External image search in Pangea CMS is only available when you search for an image to display on the website (for example, when you search for a Main visual to display on a content page). You cannot search for external images on the main Search page.
To search external images, select the External tab. You can use any image.
After you upload an external image:
- The image is saved in Pangea CMS as an internal image and is available for use by other users from your entity.
- The relevant agency (AFP, AP, Reuters) is automatically assigned as the image Source.
Find images from another entity
Using the search in Pangea CMS, you can find images uploaded by other entities that use Pangea CMS. This means the following agencies:
- RFE/RL (Radio Free Europe / Radio Liberty)
- VOA (Voice of America)
- OCB (Office of Cuba Broadcasting)
When you search images from another entity, not all images are discoverable. Search shows only the images that are shared with your entity.
NOTE: Image sharing between entities is managed at Source level. Every image has an assigned Source. The Source settings control if the image is available for other entities.
