This article explains how to add widgets on the following website items:

Create a new widget

NOTE: Follow these steps to create an independent widget that is visible on one website item.

To create a new widget:

  1. Go to Sections in the top menu. Select the type of website item (for example, Sections).
  2. Select the name of the website item where you want to create the widget, or hit + Add new to create a new website item.
  3. Under Widgets in the left panel, locate the type of widget you want to create (for example, Content).
  4. Drag and drop the box to your chosen position on the page. Some widgets can only be added in certain positions. More information here:

Add a library widget

NOTE: These steps assume the library widget you want to add has already been created. To create a new library widget, go to the Widget library.

To add a library widget on a website item:

  1. Go to Sections in the top menu. Select the type of website item (for example, Sections).
  2. Select the name of the website item where you want to add the widget, or hit + Add new to create a new website item.
  3. Click the Widgets from Library box in the left panel to reveal the list of widget types.
  4. Under Widgets from Library, locate the type of widget you want to add (for example, Content). Drag and drop the box to your chosen position on the page. Some widgets can only be added in certain positions. More information here:
  5. Under Action, click the green tick next to the library widget you want to add. Then, hit Select.

The library widget is added on the website item.

Restrictions on placing widgets

When you click and hold the box for a widget type, the available positions for the widget are marked green. Positions where it is not possible to add the widget are marked red.

The following factors might affect where you can place a widget:



Special layout blocks

By default, a Section page includes two layout blocks for special Content widget layouts. These are located as follows:

  • (A): Feature: The gray block at the top of the page (position 1.1) by default.
  • (B): Media slider: The black block towards the bottom of the page (position 8.1) by default.

These layout blocks are only available when you drag and drop the Content box to create a Content widget. They are unavailable for all other widget types. Information about the special Content widget layouts is available here:



Widgets with special conditions

The following widgets have special conditions:

  • Podcast: Can only be added in boxes that occupy one column.
  • Live blog: Can only be added in boxes that occupy one or two columns.

You can add the following types of widgets on website items:



Content

A Content widget is a highly versatile widget that can promote a mixture of content page types and offers a wide variety of layout options. For detailed information, see the following article:



FactCheck

A FactCheck widget is specially designed for promoting FactCheck pages. For detailed information, see the following article:



HTML

An HTML widget is like a blank canvas that lets you display custom content, including images, text, banners, and infographics. For detailed information, see the following article:



Live Blog

A Live blog widget is specially designed for promoting Live blog pages.



Live streaming

A Live streaming widget streams live video content from Scheduler.



Manual stream

A Manual stream widget streams live video content from Manual stream. For detailed information, see the following article:



Multimedia

A Multimedia widget promotes any multimedia items (video or audio) published by your own site. For detailed information, see the following article:



Podcast

A Podcast widget promotes the latest episode from a podcast and allows visitors to subscribe to the podcast.



Poll

A Poll widget lets visitors vote in a poll. For detailed information, see the following article:



Subscription

A Subscription widget lets visitors subscribe to a newsletter.



Trends

A Trends widget lists the most viewed content pages from your website. For detailed information, see the following article:
