About user groups
This article explains how to manage the content that appears in Pangea mobile apps.
Mobile apps allow audiences in different regions to access content in multiple languages, regardless of government restrictions.
For the full list of mobile and smart TV apps that are currently supported by Pangea, see our Pangea app portfolio.
Content and features
Mobile app users can access the following content:
- Live video and audio
- On-demand video and audio
- Articles, galleries, and other content pages
Mobile apps offer the following additional features:
- Offline access: Download content to access offline.
- Notifications: Receive push notifications about breaking news stories.
- Content sharing: Share content via email, X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, and other platforms.
- Customization: Build a custom news feed.
Set the homepage
The homepage is the first page that users see after opening your app. By default, your website homepage is also used as the mobile app homepage.
The following alternatives are available:
- Use another section page on your website as the mobile app homepage.
- Build a custom mobile app homepage using widgets.
IMPORTANT: Some widgets are not supported in mobile apps and will not appear on the homepage. For details, see Homepage widgets and layouts.
For information about setting your homepage, see:
Use another section
To open your Sections list, go to Build > Sections in Pangea CMS. You can use any section as your mobile app homepage. This includes draft and published sections.
Contact Pangea Customer Care to change which section is used as your mobile app homepage. In your request, tell us which section you want to use.
Build a custom homepage
You can build a new section and use it as your mobile app homepage. If you do not want to publish the page on your website, make sure it has the Draft status.
Contact Pangea Customer Care to set the new section as your mobile app homepage. In your request, tell us which section you want to use.
See our Building a section page article for instructions on how to build a new section page in Pangea CMS.
Homepage widgets and layouts
Supported widgets
The mobile app homepage supports the following types of widgets:
- Content widget
- Trends widget
NOTE: If the section includes other widget types, these widgets will not appear in the app. You do not need to remove these widgets from the section.
Longer titles
On the mobile app homepage, less space is available for titles on widgets. Longer titles may be cut.
To avoid this, you can create a shorter title for widgets. For details, see:
Display differences
Sections may look different in your mobile app than on your website.
On the mobile app homepage:
- Content widgets may show the category and publication date for items (depending on the layout).
- Trends widgets show the category for each item.
- Media sliders always have a light background.
- Vertical images do not appear. A horizontal image appears instead.
- Loop videos do not appear. A horizontal image appears instead.
Audio content
Audio content is not supported on the mobile app homepage, except in the Live and upcoming content slider. Widgets with audio items will not display these items in the mobile app.
TIP: To promote audio content in your mobile app, add an audio page.
Live and upcoming content
The scheduler and template week feature in Pangea CMS supports live video and audio streaming. If your service uses this feature, a slider with live and upcoming content automatically appears as the second item on the app homepage.
This slider promotes your current live content. Users can tap a show to watch or listen immediately. Upcoming shows are also listed.
Live content automatically synchronizes with the current schedule in scheduler and template week. For information about this feature, see:
Video and audio pages
We can add one or both of the following pages to Pangea mobile apps on request:
- Video page
- Audio page
If your app includes a video or audio page, users can open the page from the main action bar. Each page can include the following blocks:
- Live: Promotes your current live content. Users can tap a show to watch or listen immediately.
- My programs: A personalized list of programs that the user has liked or followed.
- All programs: Lists all your regular programs.
- Continue watching / listening: Allows users to continue content they have not finished.
- Bookmarks: A personalized list of programs that the user has bookmarked.
Live content
Live content automatically synchronizes with the current schedule in scheduler and template week. For information about this feature, see:
Manage the programs list
You can control which programs appear in the All programs list.
