Creating a special Content widget

update

What's inside this article:

Basic information

This article explains how to use the following special Content widget layouts:

Feature

The Feature layout includes a gray background for increased visibility on the page. This layout is intended to showcase a collection of articles on a special topic that is important for your audience (for example, elections, the death of a public figure, or any other high-interest story).

The Feature layout is optimized to display exactly 5 items. If you add more than 5 items, the additional items will not be visible. Including fewer than 5 items will leave blank space on the widget.

Media slider

The Media slider layout lets visitors scroll through a selection of content pages on a horizontal slider reel. It can include a maximum of 20 items.

The Media slider layout offers 2 modes:

  • Dark mode: A slider reel with a dark background. Intended to promote multimedia content pages (for example, Videos and Photo galleries).
  • Light mode: A slider reel with a white background. Intended to promote non-multimedia content pages (for example, Articles and Live blogs).
NOTE: Using a dark background provides better visibility for multimedia items and follows industry standards for promoting this type of content.

Manage layout blocks

Special Content widgets are available when you create the following website items:

  • Sections
  • Infopages
  • Landings
  • You Might Also Like 2.0

To create a special Content widget, first place the corresponding layout block on the Editor screen. One Feature and one Media slider layout block appear by default when you create a new Section page:

  • (A): Feature: The gray block at the top of the page (position 1.1) by default.
  • (B): Media slider: The black block towards the bottom of the page (position 8.1) by default.

You can also add and move layout blocks manually via Layout builder. To access Layout builder and manage the special layout blocks:

  1. Hit Layout in the top-right corner of the Editor screen.
  2. In the left panel, locate the layout blocks under Special. Choose your preferred option:
    • Media slider: Create a Media slider widget (dark or light)
    • Content: Create a Feature widget.
  3. Drag and drop the relevant box to the correct position on the page.
  4. If necessary, move an existing layout block by dragging and dropping the box.
  5. Once you are happy with the placement, hit Back to section editor.

You can now create the special Content widget. Detailed information is available here:
