Basic information
On Pangea sites, widgets are commonly used to promote content pages. In Pangea CMS, several widget types are available for this purpose. These widgets include a simple preview for each content page that is promoted on the widget. In the Pangea system, this preview is called a widget teaser.
The following widget types include widget teasers that are customizable:
- Breaking news widget
- Content widget
- FactCheck widget
- Multimedia widget
- Slide-in widget
This article explains how to customize a widget teaser.
Guidelines
A widget teaser should make visitors want to open the page. You might consider the following optimizations:
- Add a shorter title that is quick to read.
- Add a focused introduction that generates interest in the story.
- Add a striking image or Loop video to grab the attention of visitors.
Build a new widget
This article assumes that the widget builder (shown below) is already open.
To learn how to build a new widget from the beginning, see the relevant article below:

Check the widget mode
Check the widget mode via the Content section of the widget builder.
The following conditions apply:
- Manual mode: You can customize the widget teaser for any item.
- Semi-auto mode: You can customize the widget teaser for manual items.
- Auto mode: The option to customize widget teasers is not available.
For information about the different modes, see the following articles:
- Use Auto mode to populate a widget

Customize a teaser
In the Content section of the widget builder, hit Add teaser / Edit teaser in the relevant item box.
On the Edit teaser dialog, define your chosen elements for the teaser. For details, go to the following section:
When you are satisfied, choose your preferred option to confirm the change:
- Update widget teaser: Display the custom teaser on the current widget only. This option is available for Content, Breaking news, and Slide-in widgets.
- Update website teaser: Display the custom teaser on the current widget and replace the universal Website teaser settings for the content page. This option is available for all widget types.
The change will not be applied until you hit Save or Save & close in the widget builder.
Widget teaser elements
On the Edit teaser dialog, define your chosen elements for the teaser.
Not all the listed elements on the Edit teaser dialog will be displayed on the current widget. This varies, according to the type of widget and its defined layout settings. Find details about each element in the sections below:
Title
The widget teaser always displays a title. The title is generated as follows (if 1 is not filled, the data is taken from 2, and so on):
- The Title field on the Edit teaser dialog
- The Title field in the Website teaser settings for the content page
- The Title field in the General settings for the content page
Introduction
The widget teaser might display an introduction if Display introduction is enabled in the widget Layout settings.
The introduction is generated as follows (if 1 is not filled, the data is taken from 2, and so on):
- The Introduction field on the Edit teaser dialog
- The Introduction field in the Website teaser settings for the content page
- The Introduction field in the General settings for the content page
If none of the above fields are filled, the widget teaser does not display an introduction.
Label
The widget teaser might display a label if Label is manually selected in the widget layout settings.
The label is generated as follows (if 1 is not filled, the data is taken from 2):
- The Label field on the Edit teaser dialog
- The Label field in the Website teaser settings for the content page
If none of the above fields are filled, the widget teaser does not display a label.
Horizontal image
The widget teaser displays a horizontal image if the widget includes images and uses a horizontal layout. This applies for most widgets on Pangea sites.
The horizontal image is generated as follows (if 1 is not filled, the data is taken from 2, and so on):
- The Horizontal image field on the Edit teaser dialog
- The Horizontal image field in the Website teaser settings for the content page
- The Main visual for the content page
If none of the above fields are filled, the default image for your site is displayed in the widget teaser.
Vertical image
The widget teaser displays a vertical image if the widget uses one of the following vertical layouts (available when you create a Content widget):
- Top story package with vertical carousel on mobile
- Vertical image
- Media slider vertical
The vertical image is generated as follows (if 1 is not filled, the data is taken from 2, and so on):
- The Vertical image field on the Edit teaser dialog
- The Vertical image field in the Website teaser settings for the content page
- The Main visual for the content page
If none of the above fields are filled, the default image for your site is displayed in the widget teaser.
Loop video
The widget teaser might display a Loop video if Display Loop video is enabled in the widget Layout settings.
The Loop video is generated as follows (if 1 is not filled, the data is taken from 2):
- The Loop video field on the Edit teaser dialog
- The Loop video field in the Website teaser settings for the content page
If none of the above fields are filled, the widget teaser does not display a Loop video. A horizontal image is displayed instead of a Loop video.
For information about using Loop videos on Pangea sites, see the following article:
Remove a custom teaser
If you need to remove a custom teaser, hit Edit teaser in the item box.
You see one of the options below:
- Remove widget teaser: Remove the custom teaser from the current widget only.
- Remove website teaser: Remove the universal Website teaser settings for the content page.
The change will not be applied until you hit Save or Save & close in the widget builder.
