Basic information
This article explains how to run a content search in Pangea CMS. A content search includes the following content types:
Text content:
- Article | Backgrounder | Blog | FactCheck | Feature | Feature story | Live blog | News | Transcript
Multimedia content:
- Audio clip | Audio feature | Broadcast program | Document | Loop video | Photo gallery | Slider gallery | Video
Interactive content:
- Dynamic infographics | Poll | Quiz | Snippet | Static infographics
NOTE: To learn how to run an image search, see our separate guide.
The images in this article show the main Search page in Pangea CMS. However, the information also applies for other content searches you might run in CMS (such as searching for content to promote on a widget).
Restore default search filters
The default search filters in Pangea CMS show all content that was published or created by the current site in the last 30 days. If desired, hit Clear to restore the default search filters.
After you run a search using specific filters, Pangea CMS saves your filters and applies them for future searches. If you do not restore the default search filters before running a new search, your results might be limited by the filters from a previous search.
Run a search
To run a content search:
- Select the Content tab.
- Optionally hit Clear to restore the default search filters.
- Set the search filters, according to your needs.
- Hit Search.
The results refresh to show only the items that match your defined search filters.
Sort results
You can set the order of the results via the Sort by drop-down menu.
The following options are available:
- Latest modified: Sort content from newest to oldest, based on when the content was last updated.
- First modified: Sort content from oldest to newest, based on when the content was last updated.
- Latest published: Sort content from newest to oldest, based on the date of publication (for published content) or creation (for draft content).
- First published: Sort content from oldest to newest, based on the date of publication (for published content) or creation (for draft content).
Set the search filters
Use filters to narrow the search results and quickly find specific content. For example, set the filters to see only Articles published in the last 24 hours.
In the sections below, find a description of the possible filters for a content search:
- Keywords
- Site
- Publication date
- Content type
- Categories
- Status
- Approval status
- Authors
- Modified by
- Tags
- Include deleted content
Keywords
Enter keywords in the Type to search by keywords... box.
You can enter a single word or a phrase. The results will include only items that contain a match for your search query in one of following fields:
- Title
- Introduction
- Content
Consider surrounding a phrase with quotes ("") for more precise results. For example, if you enter "cats are wonderful creatures" (with quotes), the results will include only items that contain this exact phrase. If you enter cats are wonderful creatures (with no quotes), the results will include items that contain all these keywords separately and in a different order.
Site
You can find content created by other sites under the same entity. For example, if your site is under the entity RFE/RL, you can search for content from other RFE/RL sites.
Under Sites, one option must be selected. Based on your selection, the results will include:
- This site: Only content created by the current site.
- Other sites: Content created by all sites under your entity (excluding the current site).
- All sites: Content created by all sites under your entity (including the current site).
- Specific site: Content created by the specific site you select.
You cannot edit content from other sites. However, the following options might be useful:
- Open a published content page on the public site.
- Make a copy / clone of a content item.
Publication date
Under Publication date, one option must be selected. Based on your selection, the results will include:
- Today: Only items published during the current day.
- Last 24 hours: Only items published in the last 24 hours.
- Last 7 days: Only items published in the last 7 days.
- Last 30 days: Only items published in the last 30 days.
- All: All valid items regardless of publication date.
- Custom: Only items published during the custom time period you define.
- Scheduled: Only items with scheduled publication.
NOTE: If an item is not published (for example, if it is in Draft status), the publication date is defined according to the date of creation (when the item was first saved in CMS).

Click inside the box and start typing to quickly find a specific content type.
Categories

- Draft: Items with the Draft status.
- Edited: Items with the Edited status.

If no status groups are selected, the results might include items with any of the listed statuses.
For information about the purpose of each status, see the following article:
Approval status
Published content in Pangea CMS might have an approval status. An approval status signals that the content is published with unpublished changes saved internally in CMS.
Under Approval status, optionally select one or more statuses. Based on your selection, the results will include:
- In progress: Only published content with the "In progress" approval status. This status signals that someone is working on changes to the content. The content is not yet ready for the attention of a reviewer.
- Pending approval: Only published content with the "Pending approval" approval status. This status signals that changes to the content are complete and the creator has requested approval before publication. The content is waiting for the attention of a reviewer.
If no approval status is selected, the results might include items with either of the listed statuses.
For detailed information about the Content approval process for published content, see the following article:
Authors
Under Authors, optionally select one or more authors. The results will only include items with at least one of the selected authors.
Click inside the box and start typing to quickly find a specific author. You can search for an author using any of the following names:
- First name
- Last name
- Pen name
- English name
For an overview of the purpose of the different names, see the following article:
Authors are content creators. Each content page can have one or more authors. For details, see the following article:
Modified by
Under Modified by, optionally select one or more CMS users. The results will only include items that have been edited at some point in time by at least one of the selected CMS users.

If you tick Include Deleted Content, the results will include deleted items.
Deleted items are marked red in the search results. The following options are available for deleted content:
- Edit: Edit the item.
- History: View the history of changes, including who deleted the item.
- Restore: Restore the item.
Find scheduled content
Pangea CMS lets you schedule automatic publication of a content page for a specific time and date in the future. For details, see the following article:
To quickly find scheduled content using CMS search:
- Select Scheduled under Publication date & time in the search filters.
- Under Status, either leave nothing selected or select Published.
- Hit Search.
The results include only scheduled content. Scheduled content is marked with the Scheduled icon.
Troubleshooting
If you struggle to find content using search, review the sections below:
Use the Editorial bar
The Editorial bar lets you open the edit page for a piece of content directly from the public site (useful for editing published content). This removes the need to search for the content in Pangea CMS.
For details, see the following article:
Clear search filters
After you run a search using specific filters, Pangea CMS saves your filters and applies them for future searches. If you do not restore the default search filters before running a new search, your results might be limited by the filters from a previous search. Hit Clear to restore the default filters before running a new search.
Find uploaded files
To find a file that you have uploaded to Pangea CMS (video, audio, or document), try selecting Waiting under Status.
With Waiting selected, the results include items with the following technical statuses that the system might assign during the upload process:
- Canceled
- Uploading
- Processing
- Upload filed
- Draft
Find older content
By default, the search results only include items published in the last 30 days. To find older content, select All under Publication date.
