Assign Tags to a content page

update

What's inside this article:

Basic information

Tags are labels or descriptive keywords that you can assign in the settings for any content page. The assigned Tags are added as meta keywords for the page. Your site might also use Tags as follows:

  • To filter the results when you run a content search in Pangea CMS.
  • To optimize search results on the public site.
  • To control which content is promoted on a widget. This option is available when you set up a widget using auto mode.

This article explains how to assign Tags to a content page.

Open Tags settings

The information in this article assumes that the edit screen for the content page is already open in Pangea CMS. To learn how to create a content page from the beginning, see the following article:

From the edit screen for a content page, hit Tags in the left panel to open the Tags settings.

The remaining sections in this article will describe the available options for managing Tags.

Assign an existing Tag

To assign an existing Tag to a content page:

  1. Click inside the box and start typing. You see a list of the existing Tags that match your search.
  2. Click the Tag you want to assign.

The Tag appears in the Tags box.

Create a new Tag

To create a new Tag and assign it to a content page:

  1. Click inside the box and type the Tag you want to assign.
  2. Click the Add option.

The Tag appears in the Tags box.

Assign multiple Tags

If you want to assign multiple Tags to a content page, you do not need to type and confirm every Tag individually. Just type or paste the full list of Tags separated by commas.

For example, if you enter cat, dog, parrot, and then press the enter key on your keyboard, cat, dog, and parrot are assigned as three separate tags. This functionality is especially useful if you need to paste a list of tags from an external document.

Remove Tags

Remove an individual Tag by hitting the small X icon next to the Tag. Instantly remove all Tags by hitting the large X icon on the right side of the box.

Optimize public site search

When a word / phrase is assigned to a content page as a Tag, the page appears in the search results when that same word / phrase is entered as a search query on the public site. For example, an Article with the assigned Tag football appears in the search results for football (even if the word football is not used in the Article).

The following rules apply:

  • Search is not case-sensitive, so an Article with the assigned Tag Football will appear in the search results for Football and football.
  • If a Tag is a phrase with no quotes, each word is treated as a separate Tag. For example, an Article with the assigned Tag cats are great (with no quotes) will appear in the search results for cats as well as great.
  • If a Tag is a phrase with quotes, the phrase is treated as a single Tag. For example, an Article with the assigned Tag "cats are great" (with quotes) will appear in the search results for cats are great. It will not appear in the search results for cats (unless this word is used elsewhere in the Article).
TIP: Assign words / phrases as Tags that are not used on the content page, but might be entered by visitors to your site (such as colloquialisms and alternative spellings).
