About the Widget library
What is the Widget library?
The Widget library stores the available library widgets for your site. Via the Widget library, you can create a new library widget, edit or delete an existing library widget, and more.
What is a library widget?
Library widgets behave as follows:
- All library widgets are stored in the Widget library.
- A single library widget might be used on multiple website items (or it might be used nowhere).
- Whenever you edit a library widget, the changes are applied automatically for all instances of the widget.
What happens when I edit a library widget?
When a library widget is used on multiple website items, all instances of the widget are linked. So whenever you edit a library widget, the changes are applied automatically for all instances of the widget.
Which widgets can be library widgets?
The following widgets can be library widgets:
- Content widgets
- FactCheck widgets
- HTML widgets
- Live blog widgets
- Manual stream widgets
- Multimedia widgets
- Podcast widgets
- Poll widgets
- Subscription widgets
- Trends widgets

What is an independent widget?
Independent widgets behave as follows:
- An independent widget is created via the Editor screen for any website item.
- An independent widget is visible on one website item only.
- Independent widgets do not inherit changes from other widgets. Edits to independent widgets are never applied for other widgets.
Open the Widget library
To open the Widget library, go to Sections > Widget Library in the top menu.
Create a library widget
To create a new library widget:
- Hit + Add new.
- Select the type of widget you want to create. For information about the different widget types, see the following article:
The widget creation wizard opens in the same tab. For detailed information about configuring the widget, see the relevant article below:

- Multimedia widget
- Poll widget

After you save the widget, it is stored in the Widget library. To learn about using a library widget, see the following article:
Edit a library widget
When a library widget is used on multiple website items, all instances of the widget are linked. So whenever you edit a library widget, the changes are applied automatically for all instances of the widget.
To edit a library widget, hit the widget name.
The widget edit screen opens in the same tab. For detailed information about configuring the widget, see the relevant article below:

If a library widget is used on a website item, you can also edit it via the Editor screen for the website item. For instructions, see the following article:
Check where a library widget is used
Under Used on, you see the name of the first website item where the library widget is used. Hit the name to open the Editor screen for the website item.
The following conditions apply:
- If the widget is not currently used on any website items, the Used on column is blank.
- If the widget is currently used on multiple website items, hit the + more link to see a full list with details about the different widget instances.
Remove a widget from the Widget library
When you remove a widget from the Widget library, the following conditions apply:
- The widget is no longer a library widget.
- The widget is still visible on the public site.
- Every instance of the widget is now treated as an independent widget.
To remove a widget from the Widget library:
- Hover over the relevant widget panel and select the Remove from library icon.
- Hit Remove to confirm the action.
The widget is now removed from the Widget library.
Delete a library widget
When you delete a library widget via the Widget library, the following conditions apply:
- All instances of the widget are deleted from the public site. A white space is left on pages where the widget was displayed.
- The widget is deleted from the Widget library.
To delete a library widget:
- Hover over the relevant widget panel and select the Remove icon.
- Hit Remove to confirm the action.
All instances of the widget are now deleted.
