What's new?
- Updates for Pangea websites:
- Updates for Pangea AI:
- Updates for Pangea CMS:
Inline notes on text content pages
Pangea now supports Inline notes on text content pages. An Inline note is a simple explanation of a word or phrase, which readers can manually open by clicking or tapping the launcher text.
You can use Inline notes to explain potentially confusing words and phrases, without overwhelming the page with too much content. Inline notes help to make your content more accessible, especially for readers who do not have a deep understanding of the subject matter.
In Pangea CMS, follow these steps to create a new Inline note:
- Highlight the launcher text (the word or phrase you want to explain).
- Hit the Add / Edit Inline note button in the text editor bar.
- Under Content, enter the explanation. Then, hit Add.
The Inline note is inserted and marked with the i icon. For an existing Inline note, the following actions are available:
- Edit: Right-click the launcher text, and select Add / Edit Inline note. You can edit the content or launcher text.
- Remove: Right-click the launcher text, and select Remove Inline note. The Inline note is removed and the content inside the note is permanently deleted.
Summary on text content pages
IMPORTANT: Immediately after the 8.42 release, the new Summary feature will be enabled for selected pilot services. If no issues are found, it will be available on request for all services around 2 weeks later.
Pangea now supports summaries on text content pages. A summary is a bullet-style list, which concisely summarizes the key takeaways from a story.
Summaries can bring many benefits, for example:
- Accessibility: Your content is more accessible for readers who don't have time to read full articles.
- Reader experience: Readers can make informed choices and prioritize the stories that interest them.
- Engagement: Some visitors are more likely to engage and keep reading when they know what the story is about.
Displaying a summary is optional. In Pangea CMS, follow these steps to create a summary:
- Go to Editor > Summary.
- Click inside the box and type the first point.
- To start a new point, press the Enter key on your keyboard.
After you press the Enter key, a new bullet is automatically added. Ensure that every summary includes at least 2 separate points. (3-4 points is ideal.)
Texts for localization
On the public site, the default title for all summaries is Summary. Services can add a local version of this text. Use the following configuration key:
- ArticleSummary.Summary
After the 8.42 release, this key will be available on the Site localization in Pangea CMS. For detailed information, see the following article:
Introductions for more Category pages
With the Pangea 8.39 release earlier this year, we brought the option for services to display introductions on Category pages that use the List with images layout.
With the current Pangea 8.42 release, we are also bringing the option to display introductions on the following Category-page layouts:
- Blog with big images
- FactCheck list
Add an introduction for a Category page via the Introduction field on the edit page for the Category in Pangea CMS.
AI-powered Audio narration
IMPORTANT: After the 8.42 release, the new Audio narration feature will be enabled for selected pilot services. Learn more.
Pangea now supports AI-powered Audio narration for text content pages. Audio narration lets visitors listen to your content instead of reading it.
Audio narration can bring many benefits, for example:
- Accessibility: Your content is more accessible for visitors who are traveling or multitasking.
- Engagement: Visitors might browse other content on your site while listening to an article. This can increase the amount of time visitors spend on your site and produce more interactions with related content.
An editor can manually add Audio narration to a story from Pangea CMS. Narration is not added to all stories by default. For detailed instructions, see the following article:
If a story has narration, the Listen button is available on the public page. When a visitor hits 'Listen', an AI-generated voice will read the following texts in order:
- Title
- Introduction (if an introduction is displayed on the page)
- Body text (excluding text inside embeds, captions, and 'See also' links)
The audio plays through our sticky player. This means that if the visitor moves to another page, the audio will continue to play and the player will remain available.
AI-powered Content assistance for summaries
IMPORTANT: Content assistance is a new feature on the Pangea platform, which is currently available for selected pilot services. Learn more.
With the current Pangea 8.42 release, we are bringing the new Summary feature.
For services that already use AI-powered Content assistance (and also have access to the Summary feature), Pangea AI can suggest one possible summary text for each story. For details, see the following article:
Usability improvements for Social media settings
We have improved the usability of the Social media settings for content pages in Pangea CMS. These settings let you customize the teaser that is shown on social media platforms and messaging apps.
Main improvements:
- New labels that clearly show the available options for the Social image. You might use:
- (A): The Main visual
- (B): A Custom image
- (C): An AI-generated card
- A more intuitive flow for AI-generated cards, with a new option to manually regenerate the cards. Hit Generate to see the card variants again and optionally select a different design.
NOTE: AI-generated cards are not available in Pangea CMS unless this feature is enabled and configured for your site.
