Basic information
You can embed a Backgrounder into the body of a text content page (such as an Article). A Backgrounder provides background information on a topic that is relevant to the story.
IMPORTANT: A Backgrounder should not be shared as a standalone content page.
This article explains how to create a Backgrounder in Pangea CMS, and then embed the Backgrounder on a content page.
Go to Create > Text > Backgrounder to create a new Backgrounder.
Add the title
Add the title for the Backgrounder via Editor > Add title....
The title for a Backgrounder is used as follows:
- Identifies the Backgrounder in Pangea CMS. CMS users can search for the Backgrounder by entering keywords from the title.
- Added as the default title for the Backgrounder. Content creators will have the option to create a custom title while embedding the Backgrounder.
Add body text
Add body text in the main box on the Editor subpage.
While the main box is active, the editor bar is available. If you click elsewhere on the page, the editor bar disappears.
You can type the text manually or paste text from a third-party word processor (such as Microsoft Word).
The editor bar includes many tools for adding and formatting text. For details, see the following article:
Add an image
A Backgrounder might include the following types of images:
- Internal images: Images that were manually uploaded to Pangea CMS.
- External images: Images from the following external agencies:
- AFP (Agence France-Presse)
- AP (Associated Press)
- Reuters
To get started, position the cursor where you want to insert the image. Then, hit the Insert embedded content button.
For detailed instructions, see the following article:
Publish the Backgrounder
Choose your preferred option:
Publish immediately
To immediately publish the Backgrounder:
- Select Published in the status drop-down menu.
- Select Publish or Publish & close.
The Backgrounder is now published. However, the Backgrounder will not be visible on the public site until it is embedded on a content page.
Schedule publication
You can schedule publication for a specific time and date in the future. For details, see the following article:
While publication is scheduled, you can embed the Backgrounder. The embedded Backgrounder is hidden until the specified publication time. The placeholder on the Editor subpage includes the Draft badge. This indicates that the Backgrounder is not yet visible on the public site.
