What's new?
- Updates for Pangea websites:
- Updates for Pangea CMS:
Expandable notes on text content pages
Text content pages can now include Expandable notes. An Expandable note is an interactive element, which readers can manually open and close.
Using Expandable notes, editors can tell rich and immersive stories without overwhelming the page with too much content. You might use Expandable notes to share background information, side stories, and other non-essential details. This option is especially useful for long-read content and investigative journalism.
In Pangea CMS, follow these steps to add a new Expandable note:
- Position the cursor where you want to insert the Expandable note.
- Hit the Add Expandable note button in the text editor bar.
- Click inside the placeholder to add the title and content for the Expandable note.
The title for an Expandable note can include just basic text. The content might include:
- Paragraphs and headings
- Styled text
- Links
- Lists
- Embedded content (images, videos, external media, and more)
When adding content to an Expandable note, you can use the options in the main text editor bar.
If you need to delete an Expandable note, manually delete all the text and embeds from inside the placeholder. When it is empty, the placeholder disappears.
The following text content pages can include Expandable notes:
- Article
- Blog
- FactCheck
- Feature
- Feature story
- Live blog
- News
- Transcript
Search improvements
We have made the following improvements to the search on Pangea websites:
- New Clear filters button to instantly clear the selected search filters.
- New Custom option for the Time range filter. This lets visitors search for content published within a specific time range.
New Localization keys
After the 8.41 release, site admins will be able to add local values for the following configuration keys on the Site localization page in Pangea CMS:
Key name | Global value | Purpose |
---|---|---|
Responsive.Search.Reset | Clear filters | Text on the 'Clear filters' button. |
Responsive.Search.Custom | Custom | Label for the custom time range filter. |
Responsive.Search.CustomDateErrorMessage | Date is not valid | Message shown when a user enters an invalid date or date range for the custom time range filter. |
New search filter for PangeaGO images
The PangeaGO uploads filter is now available when you run an image search in Pangea CMS. When this box is ticked, the results will only include images that were uploaded from the PangeaGO mobile app.
NOTE: The filter will find images uploaded after Tuesday, April 8th 2025.
Also, for images uploaded from PangeaGO, the following detail is now listed on the main Search page:
- Uploaded from: PangeaGO
To learn more about PangeaGO, see our dedicated guide:
For all PangeaGO images, "PangeaGO" is assigned as the default Source in Pangea CMS. Because the Source is displayed with the image on the public site, we suggest manually changing the Source before the image is used. The Source should be the organization, agency, or entity that owns permission to use the image. To learn more about Sources for images, see our dedicated guide:
New rights for contributors to edit published content
Contributors can now edit published content. A contributor is a Pangea CMS user from the Contributor_2020 User group. These users can edit content but do not have publishing rights. Previously, contributors could only edit new content before publication. The following options are now available for contributors working with published content:
- Save: Save changes internally without impacting the published version.
- Request approval & save: Request approval for changes from an editor.
With this change, contributors have the same rights for working with published and unpublished content.
The Content approval workflow in Pangea CMS supports updates to published content. For details, see the following article:
