What's inside this article:

Basic information

This article explains how to stream video content to VKontakte using the Manual Live Stream tool in Pangea CMS.

For general information about Manual Live Stream, see the alternative article below:

Configure the stream in CMS

To access Manual Live Stream in CMS, go to Scheduler > Manual stream.

First, you need to complete the following required settings:

  • Stream name
  • Source
  • Max stream length

For detailed information about these settings, see our general Manual Live Stream guide:

To stream to VKontakte, select VKontakte under Social media.

After you select a social media platform, the following additional fields appear:

  • Name of channel: Enter the name of the social media page where you will send the stream. The name will only be visible in Pangea CMS.
  • Server URL: Paste the Server URL that needs to be retrieved from VKontakte.
  • Stream key: Paste the Stream key that needs to be retrieved from VKontakte.

NOTE: Your service can add a default channel name for Manual Live Stream requests to VKontakte. When VKontakte is selected under Social media, the default value will appear automatically in the Name of channel box. Contact Pangea Customer Care to add a default channel name.

Copy the Server URL and Stream key from VKontakte

To retrieve the Server URL and Stream key from VKontakte:

  1. Go to your VKontakte account and select Videos.
  2. Select Live > App.
  3. On the New stream dialog, ensure One-time key is selected.

Scroll to Encoder settings and perform the steps below:

  • Select the Copy icon next to Key. In CMS, paste this value into the Stream key field.
  • Highlight the value shown next to URL and copy it to your clipboard. In CMS, paste this value into the Server URL field.

It is essential that you do not hit Send stream in CMS at this stage. First, configure the stream in VKontakte.

Configure the stream in VKontakte

Configure the stream settings in Vkontakte on the New stream dialog. The following details are required:

  • Stream title
  • Description
  • Category

After configuring the stream settings, follow these additional steps:

  1. Ensure Stream preview is ticked.
  2. Hit Save. An empty preview of the stream is generated.

You can now start the stream.

Start the stream

To start the stream:

  1. Hit Send stream in CMS. This sends the stream to VKontakte. However, the stream will not go live until you manually start it in VKontakte.
  2. Go to VKontakte. A preview of the stream might already be available. However, it might take up to one minute before the preview is visible.
  3. When you are ready to start the stream, hit Go live in VKontakte.

The stream starts.

End the stream

IMPORTANT: It's important to end to stream both in VKontakte and in Pangea CMS.

Follow these steps:

  1. Select Stop streaming in VKontakte.
  2. In CMS, select Delete stream to stop the whole streaming event (including other platforms). If needed, you can select Cancel streaming to only stop the stream to VKontakte.

The stream ends.
