About Category archives
A Category archive is a single page on the public website that lets visitors browse all content from the same Category.
You can create a Category archive page for any Content category. For TV and Radio categories, you can create a Multimedia archive. For detailed information, see the following article:
For detailed information about the different Category types, see the following article:
Start editing a Content category
This article assumes that the Edit Category (Zone) screen (shown below) for the Content category you want to edit is already open.
Open the Edit Category (Zone) screen by creating a new Category or editing an existing Category. For instructions, see the following article:
Enable a Category archive
To create a Category archive for the current Category, ensure the Enable category (zone) archive page setting on the Edit Category (Zone) screen is ticked.
Untick this setting if you do not want to create a Category archive for the current Category.
Select the archive layout
To select the archive layout:
- Select Change page layout.
- Select the layout you want to use, and hit Save changes. For detailed information about the available layout options, go to the following section:
- The changes are not saved unless you also hit Save on the Edit Category (Zone) screen.
The selected layout is now applied.
Configure the calendar
A calendar is visible on all Category archives (unless the Latest News layout is selected). When a visitor picks a specific date on the calendar, only content published on this date is listed on the archive.
Under Data archive are present since, set the earliest date that will be pickable in the calendar. To make all content from the Category searchable via the archive page, enter the date when the oldest content from the Category was published.
Learn about archive layouts
Learn about the available archive layouts for Content categories below:
List with thumbnails
List with thumbnails is a highly versatile layout, suitable for promoting a mixture of content types. An example is available via the link below:
A simple preview of every item from the Category is visible on the archive page.
Each item preview includes the following elements:
- Publication date and time
- Title
- Introduction
- Image
Blog with big images
The Blog with big images archive layout lets visitors consume content as a continous stream rather than individual content pages. An example is available via the link below:
Every item from the Category is visible in full on the archive page. For this reason, the Blog with big images layout is intended for distributing simple content pages that are relatively short.
FactCheck list
The FactCheck list layout is intended for distributing FactCheck pages. An example is available via the link below:
A preview of every FactCheck from the Category is visible on the archive page.
Latest News
The Latest news archive layout lets visitors consume content as a continous stream rather than individual content pages. An example is available via the link below:
Unlike other archive layouts, Latest news applies on content pages. This means all content pages from Latest news Categories behave like archive pages (applies only when a Latest news Category is set as the Primary category for the content page).
When you open a content page from a Latest news Category:
- The desired content is expanded and visible in full at the top of the page.
- Keep scrolling to browse other items from the Category. For other items, only the first paragraph is visible.
Any item can be expanded to view the content in full directly on the archive page. Expand an item by hitting Read more or using the small button on each item panel.
Only one item can be expanded at once. The URL in the address bar always matches the currently expanded item. This enables the following functionality:
- Proper tracking of page views via third-party analytics tools (such as Google / Adobe).
- The option for visitors to leave comments on individual items.
- The option for visitors to share a link to individual items.
Complete other Category settings
Enabling the Category archive page is just one part of the process for creating a new Content category. For detailed information about other options on the Edit Category (Zone) screen, see the following article:
