Customizing your Pangea AI prompts

This article explains how to manage the prompts for the Artificial Intelligence (AI) suggestions feature in Pangea CMS.

A prompt is a set of instructions for an AI model. It tells the AI what task to perform and can include additional details to guide its response (such as the topic, length, tone, structure, and audience).

Manage prompts

Pangea AI uses a separate prompt for each text type. You can manage all prompts from the Site localization page in Pangea CMS.

For each text type, choose from the following:

  • Default prompt: Use the Pangea default prompt.
  • Custom prompt: Write a custom prompt.

Access site localization

To open the page, go to Settings > Site localization.

Find a prompt

To find a prompt on the Site localization page:

  1. Enter the key name (such as AIServices.TeaserTitle.UserPrompt) under Search.
  2. Click Search.

The following options are available for each prompt:

  • Create or update a custom prompt.
  • Check a default prompt.
  • Restore a default prompt if you no longer want to use your custom one.

Create or update a custom prompt

TIP: Create your custom prompt in an external text editor (not in Pangea CMS). When the prompt is fully prepared, paste the text into Pangea CMS.

To create or update a custom prompt:

  1. Click the key name.
  2. Under Local value, paste your custom prompt.
  3. Click Save.

The prompt is now saved. You do not need to click the System reload button.

Check a default prompt

To check a default prompt:

  1. Click the key name.
  2. Under Global value, check the default prompt.

TIP: You can also check the default prompts in this article under Key names and default prompts.


Restore a default prompt

To restore a default prompt:

  1. Click the key name.
  2. Click Remove local value.
  3. Click Save.

The default prompt is now restored. You do not need to click the System reload button.



Key names and default prompts

Title prompts

Key name:

  • AIServices.TitleGeneration.UserPrompt

Global prompt text:

  • Step 1: Identify the central focus of the article.
    • Determine the main focus of the article.
    • The main angle must be clearly reflected in all headlines.
    • Identify the type of journalistic piece (news, feature, analysis).
  • Step 2: Prepare 3 headline variations based on the main topic.
    • Ensure each headline variation is distinct while pointing to the same main idea.
    • Avoid shifting the focus of headlines to side details, broader themes, or secondary aspects of the content.
  • Step 3: Adjust headlines based on the article type.
    • For news articles, make headlines objective and fact-based. Keep them clear, direct, and focused on key facts.
    • For feature articles, make headlines engaging and narrative, focusing on storytelling.
    • For analysis articles, make headlines insightful and expert-driven, emphasizing in-depth examination, causes, impacts, or trends.
  • Step 4: Adjust for clarity, engagement, and readability.
    • Use a natural, conversational language that is easy to understand.
    • Avoid jargon.
  • Step 5: Optimize headlines for search engines.
    • Ensure clarity and conciseness.
    • Include the keywords that the general public would search for.
    • Avoid exaggeration or misleading phrasing.

Global prompt text:

  • Step 1: Identify the central focus of the story.
    • Determine the main focus of the article.
    • Focus on the element of the story that will most likely draw in readers.
    • Avoid side details or background information that doesn’t support the teaser’s pull.
  • Step 2: Write distinct teaser variations.
    • Ensure each teaser title variation is distinct while pointing to the same main idea.
  • Step 3: Edit for engagement and integrity.
    • Make the teaser interesting, but avoid exaggeration or misleading language.
    • The teaser title should hint at value without resorting to clickbait.
    • Match the tone of the article.
    • Use a natural-sounding language that is easy to understand.
    • Do not insert any emotes.
  • Step 4: Optimize the length for homepage and mobile view.
    • Make each teaser title concise.

  • AIServices.SocialTitle.UserPrompt

Global prompt text:

  • Step 1: Identify the central focus of the story.
    • Determine the main focus of the article.
  • Step 2: Write distinct title variations.
    • Ensure each social title variation is distinct while pointing to the same main idea.
  • Step 3: Edit for engagement and integrity.
    • Each title should be short and punchy to generate clicks and shares.
    • The titles should hint at value without resorting to clickbait.

Introduction prompts

Key name:

  • AIServices.Introduction.UserPrompt

Global prompt text:

  • Step 1: Identify the central focus of the story.
    • Determine the main focus of the article.
    • Identify the type of journalistic piece (news, feature, analysis).
  • Step 2: Prepare an introduction.
    • Write a captivating summary with only the essential newsworthy details and data that hooks the reader.
  • Step 3: Adjust introduction based on the article type.
    • For news articles, focus on key facts. Keep it short and objective (typically one or two sentences). Avoid unnecessary background information.
    • For feature articles, hint at the larger theme or issue. Make the introduction engaging and human-focused.
    • For analysis articles, make the introduction insightful and expert-driven, emphasizing in-depth examination, causes, impacts, or trends. Signal if the article will examine different angles or perspectives.
  • Step 4: Edit for clarity and conciseness.
    • Use shorter, clear words and simple grammar to ensure ease of understanding.
    • Strive for brevity, keeping the introduction concise while still fully meeting all previous requirements.

Global prompt text:

  • Step 1: Identify the central focus of the story.
    • Determine the main focus of the article.
  • Step 2: Prepare an introduction.
    • Write a captivating summary with only the essential details and data that hooks the reader.
  • Step 3: Edit for engagement and integrity.
    • Make the introduction interesting, but avoid exaggeration or misleading language.
    • Use natural-sounding language that is easy to understand.
    • Do not insert any emotes.
  • Step 4: Optimize the length for homepage and mobile view
    • Make the introduction as short and clear as possible while still communicating value.

Global prompt text:

  • Step 1: Identify the central focus of the article
    • Determine what the article is about and what its angle is.
    • Identify subjects, arguments, or events described.
  • Step 2: Extract the key insights
  • Step 3: Trim and rank the bullets
    • Arrange bullets by descending importance.
    • Aim for about 3 bullet points; use 4 if absolutely necessary to cover all crucial points, but no more.
  • Step 4: Edit for clarity and conciseness
    • This summary is intended for readers of our news website, and it needs to be short and easy to read.
    • Rewrite the bullets to use only plain words and simple grammar.
    • Rewrite the bullets to use short sentences.
    • Remove complex sentence structure from each bullet.
    • Make sure that no bullet exceeds one sentence.
    • Reader must be able to read the entire summary in ≤ 5 seconds.
  • Step 5: Explain people and places
    • Provide simple framing for unexplained references to people, places, or organizations (e.g., "Czech Minister of the Interior", "a town in Turkey" etc.). Assume the reader has no prior context about the article's subject, and they need an explanation and references to be able to understand.



Create a custom prompt

In each prompt, provide detailed instructions. Detailed prompts produce more consistent output and better reflect your desired voice.

Choose suitable adjectives (describing words) to improve the style and tone. Your prompt might include the following adjectives (or any other suitable adjectives):

  • Intriguing, compelling, captivating, insightful, engaging, restrained, professional, objective, clear, concise, fact-based...

Different adjectives can bring significantly different results, so we encourage you to experiment and test the impact of different words.

No. You can write prompts in any language.

In most cases, you should write the prompt either in English or your local website language. This ensures Pangea AI generates text in your local website language. If you write the prompt in a language that is not English or your local website language, the prompt must clearly specify the desired language for the output.

For best results, we recommend guiding Pangea AI with a multi-step prompt. For detailed guidance, see Create a multi-step prompt.

Where possible, avoid guiding Pangea AI with numerical limits, such as a specific number of words or characters. Pangea AI may view such guidance as a strict limitation and follow it at the expense of other, more important instructions.

If the suggested texts are too long, we recommend refining the prompt using verbal guidance instead of numerical limits. Find examples below:

No. Pangea AI always prepares 3 suggestions for title texts and 1 suggestion for other texts. You do not need to specify this in the prompt. If your prompt specifies a different number, Pangea AI may not work as expected.



Create a multi-step prompt

Multi-step prompts tell the AI exactly how to solve a problem by breaking the task into small parts. This reduces the risk of errors by allowing the AI to focus on one step at a time. A multi-step prompt can also include more detail and complexity, which produces output tailored to your exact needs.

TIP: The default prompts for Pangea AI all have multiple steps. You can use these prompts as inspiration. See Key names and default prompts.

Create your multi-step prompt in an external text editor (not in Pangea CMS). When the prompt is fully prepared, paste the text into Pangea CMS. For information about how to create or update a custom prompt in Pangea CMS, see Manage prompts.

Structure the prompt

Structure the prompt as a nested list. The nested list structure might look as follows:

  • Step 1: General instruction
    • Detailed guidance
    • Detailed guidance

The format does not need to match the example exactly. For example, you can mark list items using hyphens (-), numbers, or other characters.


Add step details

Separate the process into logical steps. You might separate the process roughly as follows:

  1. Identify the main focus of the story.
  2. Prepare initial output.
  3. Refine the output for style, tone, structure, search engine optimization (SEO), audience, and so on.

Below each step in the prompt, you can add one or more points to elaborate and provide more details. For more information, see Structure the prompt.

  • Use a natural, conversational language that is easy to understand.
  • Avoid complex language or jargon.

Test different options to find the sequence that works best for your needs.



Advanced AI settings

If the output from Pangea AI does not meet your needs, even after extensive prompt testing, we can adjust your Temperature and Top P settings. These settings can limit or extend the creativity of an AI model:

  • Temperature: Controls the randomness of the AI. A higher value produces output that is more dynamic and engaging. A lower value produces output that is more restrained and standardized.
  • Top P: Controls the range of words the AI uses. A higher value lets the AI choose from more words. This produces richer, more diverse language. A lower value produces language that is more consistent and predictable.

The following examples show how Temperature and Top P can influence the AI's output:

Top P examples (headlines)
