During this release, Pangea Team has focused on what is called a Refactoring Release. The Refactoring is intended to improve nonfunctional attributes like improved code readability and reduced complexity, which can improve source-code maintainability and performance. In other words, we want to make sure, that our code is as stable and light as possible so as to minimise any errors that could occur. This is obviously quite a major task, yet even during this refactoring release, there were some features added to the system.

1. New Layout for Content Widget

To give you an option to highlight the most important news of the day in a better way, in this release we provide you new layout for Content widget:

List layout with bigger font:

You can choose this layout of the Content widget in the Settings of the widget, by clicking on the Edit widget layout => List (bigger font).

2. Google News for Follow Us Navigation

A Google news button can newly be added to the Follow Us navigation (both - top and bottom).

Please add GoogleNews value to following config keys for this purpose:

  • Responsive.FollowUsHeader (header navigation)
  • Responsive.FollowUs (bottom navigation)
  • Alt text localization - Responsive.Social.FollowOnGoogleNews
  • Link - Responsive.Social.GoogleNews.UrlFollow

3. Job Openings at RFE/RL Email Improvements

We bring a new design of the email with open job positions for RFE/RL employees with a short summary for each position.

4. Disclaimer for Discontinued Supported Files

Part of Pangea 8.0 Release will include discontinuation of specific media file formats. Before this change, all media upload pages in CMS will include a disclaimer providing information on what formats we are going to keep.

5. Convert All Sound Slides Into Galleries

As a part of the refactoring, we converted all the old SoundSlides galleries into Pangea native photo galleries. This bring the benefit that all the archive Sound Slides will be available to visitors of the sites as galleries.
SoundSlides was an old format where galleries were based on outdated Flash Technology. Because of that, it was only possible to see them if you had a special plugin available. These days Flash has been fading and most of the modern browsers do not support it or are planning to discontinue the support of this technology soon.

Now a journalist will be able to find old Sound Slides as Photo galleries In the main search.

6. [Article 8.0] Pasting Formatted Text to CKEditor

Some of our journalists prefer to use Microsoft Word as their primary tool to create content and then copy-paste this content into Pangea CMS.
In order to accommodate that, it will now be possible to paste such content directly from a Word document, Octopus, or Source while retaining the formatting of the document.

7. Office 365 Login for LibertyNet

Later after the 7.37 Release, in February 2020: LibertyNet will be updated to include an Office 365 login instead of the current separate login credentials, which should increase ease of access for the users.
