Manage your Pangea AI prompts

What's inside this article:

Basic information

A prompt is a set of instructions, given to an AI (Artificial Intelligence) model. The prompt tells the AI what task to perform and might provide additional instructions to guide its response. For example, if you ask AI to generate a piece of text, the prompt might specify the topic, length, tone, structure, and intended audience.

This article lists the different prompts used by Pangea AI and explains how site admins might update these prompts.

Global or local prompt?

Pangea AI is currently available for 6 text types (general title, website teaser title, and more). For each text type, suggestions are guided by a different prompt. Site admins can review and update these prompts on the Site localization page in Pangea CMS.

To learn how to use the Site localization page, see the following article:

For each prompt, the following options are available:

  • Global prompt: Use the global (default) prompt, which is available for all pilot services. If your service does not have a local prompt, Pangea AI will follow the global prompt. This article lists the current global prompt values.
  • Local prompt: Craft a local (custom) prompt, which is tailored to the specific needs of your service. A local prompt is helpful if your service already follows specific guidelines for how to formulate titles / introductions. This article includes tips on how to craft a local prompt.

Tips for crafting a local prompt

NOTE: You can write prompts in any language. It is not necessary to use English.

In each local prompt, provide detailed instructions that will guide the style, tone, and structure of the output. The more detail you include, the better. Expansive and detailed prompts will produce more consistent output that is better suited to your unique voice and brand. When writing a prompt, you normally do not need to mention:

  • Language: If you write the prompt in your website language or English, you do not need to specify the desired language for the output. Pangea AI will automatically prepare output in the same language as your content. If you write the prompt in an alternative language, we suggest that you specify the desired language for the output in the prompt.
  • Number of suggestions: Pangea AI will always prepare 3 suggestions for title texts and 1 suggestion for introduction texts. You do not need to specify this in the prompt. If your prompt specifies a different number, Pangea AI might stop working.

Further guidance is available below:

Use describing words

Choose suitable adjectives (describing words) to refine the style and tone. Your prompt might include the following adjectives (or any other adjectives that suit your needs):

  • Intriguing, compelling, captivating, insightful, engaging, restrained, professional, objective, clear, concise, fact-based...

Different adjectives can bring significantly different results, so we encourage you to experiment and test the impact of different words.

Avoid numerical limits for length

Where possible, avoid using numerical limits to control length. This means guidance that mentions a specific number of words or characters, for example:

  • Use a maximum of 20-30 words if possible.
  • Use a maximum of 300 characters.

Pangea AI might view such guidance as a strict limitation and follow it at the expense of other, more important instructions. If you are not happy with the length of the suggested texts, we suggest refining the prompt as follows:

  • Add further verbal guidance. For example, "Ensure conciseness".
  • Add context to explain how the text will be used. For example, "Write a brief introduction to display on social media".

Include multiple steps

For optimal results, guide Pangea AI with a multi-step prompt.

Multi-step prompts

A multi-step prompt tells the AI exactly how to solve a problem by breaking the task into small parts. This reduces the risk of errors by allowing the AI to focus on one task at a time. A multi-step prompt can also include more detail and complexity, producing output that is tailored to your exact needs.

The global prompts for Pangea AI are all multi-step prompts. You can see the prompts here:

To learn how to craft a multi-step prompt, review the sections below:

Workflow

When you prepare a multi-step prompt:

  1. Prepare the prompt in an external text editor (not in Pangea CMS).
  2. Structure the prompt as a nested list.
  3. When the prompt is ready, paste it into Pangea CMS (Site localization).

The nested list structure might look as follows:

  • Step 1: General instruction
    • Detailed guidance
    • Detailed guidance
  • Step 2: General instruction
    • Detailed guidance
    • Detailed guidance
  • Step 3: General instruction
    • Detailed guidance
    • Detailed guidance

The format does not need to strictly match the format shown above. For example, you might mark list items using hyphens (-), numbers, or other characters.

Structure

Separate the process into logical steps, which will guide and support the AI. For content assistance, you might separate the process roughly as follows:

  1. Identify the main focus of the story.
  2. Prepare initial output.
  3. Refine the output for style, tone, structure, SEO, audience, and so on.

Below each step in the prompt, you might add one or more points with detailed guidance (using a nested list structure), for example:

Step 4: Adjust for clarity, engagement, and readability.

  • Use a natural, conversational language that is easy to understand.
  • Avoid complex language or jargon.

Your prompt can include any number of steps. We encourage services to experiment with different options. Through extensive testing and evaluation, you can identify the precise sequence of steps that will consistently deliver the most suitable output.

Advanced AI settings

If, after extensive prompt testing, the output from Pangea AI still does not meet your needs, you might consider changes to Temperature / Top P. These parameters can limit or extend the creativity of the AI:

  • Temperature: Controls the randomness of the AI. A higher value produces output that is more dynamic and engaging. A lower value produces output that is more restrained and standardized.
  • Top P: Controls the size of the AI's vocabulary. A higher value means that the AI can choose from more words. This produces language that is richer and more diverse. A lower value produces language that is more unified and predictable.

Below, find examples of how Temperature / Top P can influence the AI's output:

Temperature examples (headlines):

  • Lower: "Stock Market Drops After Fed Decision"
  • Higher: "Fed’s Surprise Move Sends Shockwaves Through Wall Street"

Top P examples (headlines):

  • Lower: "President Announces New Economic Policy"
  • Higher: "President Unveils Bold Economic Overhaul Plan"

The default Temperature / Top P values for Pangea AI are set appropriately for most use cases, based on the purpose of the text and its intended audience. If your service has special requirements, changes to the Temperature / Top P might help to produce the desired results.

We can adjust the Temperature / Top P values on request for individual services. It is possible to adjust the values separately for different types of text (general title, website teaser title, and so on). If you would like to test the impact of different Temperature / Top P values, contact Pangea Customer Care.
