Manage existing Footer items

To manage the existing items in the Footer, go to Settings > Navigation Menu > Footer Navigation.

You see a full list of the current items that are displayed in the Footer. The following options are available:

  • (A): Order: Use the drop-down menu to change the position of an item. The position is reflected on the public website.
  • (B): Title: Check the Title for the item that is displayed on the public website. This is the header that appears above the links.
  • (C): Visibility: Check if the item is visible or hidden on the public website.
  • (D): New Menu Item: Add a new item.
  • (E): Edit: Click the Edit icon to edit an existing item.
  • (F): Delete: Click the Delete icon to delete an existing item.
  • (G): Live View: View the current Footer on the website homepage. The Live View is cached, so it does not immediately update based on any changes you make.

Add a new Footer item

To add a new item in the Footer:

  1. Go to Settings > Navigation Menu > Footer Navigation.
  2. Click New Menu Item.

On the Label tab, enter the Title for the Footer item under Link Text. This is the header displayed above the links on the public website.

NOTE: You cannot use a link as the Title for a Footer item. For this reason, Title Only is the only option under Link Settings.

To add a link to the Footer item, select Links > New Link Item.

Under Link Settings, you can choose one of the following link types:

  • Link to Zone: Add a link to a Category archive page.
  • Link to Section: Add a link to a Section page.
  • Link to Special page: Add a link to a Special page from your website. This includes podcast pages, RSS pages, broadcast schedules, and more.
  • Manual link: Add a link to any page by entering the URL.

You also need to enter the text for the link under Link Text. This text will be visible on the public website.

The remaining steps differ according to the option selected under Link Settings. You may need to define the following settings:

  • Zones: Select the Category archive page that the link will point to.
  • Sections: Select the Section page that the link will point to.
  • Special pages: Select the Special page page that the link will point to.
  • URL: Enter the URL that the link will point to. Use either format below:
    • A full URL (such as https://rferl.org)
    • A slash followed by the URL slug for a page from your website (such as /home)
  • Pop-up properties: Define how the page opens. The following options are available:
    • None: The page opens in the same window.
    • New tab: The page opens in a new tab.

After configuring the link, click Add Item.

You can continue to add additional links. All of the links for the Footer item are displayed under the Links tab. The following options are available:

  • (A): Order: Use the drop-down menu to change the position of a link. The position is reflected on the public website.
  • (B): Edit: Click the Edit icon to edit the link.
  • (C): Delete: Click the Delete icon to delete the link.

Changes are not applied until you click Save.

Hide a Footer item

You can hide a Footer item so it is not visible on the public website. Follow these steps:

  1. Go to Settings > Navigation Menu > Footer Navigation.
  2. Click the Edit icon next to the Footer item you want to hide.
  3. Tick the box next to Hide Item, then click Save.

The Footer item is no longer visible on the public website. To make the Footer item visible again, follow steps 1-2 above and untick the box next to Hide Item.

You can also hide an individual link in a Footer item. Follow these steps:

  1. Click the Links tab.
  2. Click the Edit icon next to the link you want to hide.
  3. Tick the box next to Hide Item.
  4. Click Update Item, then click Save.

The individual link is no longer visible in the Footer item. However, other links and the Title remain visible. To make the link visible again, follow steps 1-2 above and untick the box next to Hide Item.
