New Features
1. Video Text Content and Trascripts
In this release, we have added the option to add text to your videos or audios through the "Content" field which is now available in the Content tab when editing videos and audio files. This field offers a light version of CKEditor, which allows for basic text formatting, and linking to other content. On the front end, this text is displayed in a collapsible “Show more” folder below the multimedia content. The default setting of the folder hidden after the page loads in order to prevent negative effect on search engine optimisation, given that external search engines could evaluate your video as article because of the long text.
As of this release, it will be possible to connect transcripts directly to the multimedia content. Transcripts are mainly used as re-written speech from the multimedia content. If a transcript is set as the first related content to a video or audio, it will be displayed as a link directly under the multimedia as complementary document. Any other Transcript, article etc., will be displayed as regular related content on the right side of the page below multimedia content.
This feature requires new localizations.
2. Search Authors
In past few releases we have focused on the Front End search (also backend) improvements through providing more filters and content types which were not reachable via previous search design. In this release, we are adding Authors as a separate filter of the front end search.
When a user searches for a keyword, the default results will display the "All" tab with any content that matches the searched terms, including content produced by authors whose names match the searched keywords. It will now be possible to filter the results through the Authors tab, which will display active authors matched by searched keyword. Listed authors are connected to their Author profile where it will be possible to read their latest articles or other content.
This feature requires the localization of the Authors tab under localization keys, as well as a review of the active list of authors. If an author is set as inactive in CMS they will not get displayed.
3. My Video Social Network
We are adding new social site “My video”, which can be followed by the users on the front end. If any service is interested, the setup is simple so do not hesitate to contact our Customer care to set it up for you.
4. Customizable Print Version
With the improved print functionality, users can create their own version of how the article is printed. Following options will be available to the user:
- Article can be printed with images or without;
- Multimedia (audio/video) can be a part of the Print version or it can be disabled;
- External content embeds can be disabled or enabled for printing;
- Comments can be printed or disabled for printing.
By default we provide a version with images in colour, but users can choose printing black&white colour version using system print settings.
To trigger this print version user needs to click on "Print" icon below the Author and time stamp of the article.
Don't forget to localize setting titles using Config keys.
5. New Blocks Layout Builder
We have updated 2 blocks on layout builder by adding new areas to them. These blocks are designed to display the one column news in the middle or on the left side. This will bring more possibilities to the services in displaying and organizing their content.
6. Featured article improvements: introduction for article's mobile version, main image caption
With this release, it will now be possible to display introduction on mobile version in a featured article. The main image of the featured article will now also have a visible caption.
7. Info-graphic can be selected for "Most popular" widget
Info-graphic content can now be displayed in the "Most popular" widget as a part of Multimedia.
8. Save&Continue button, Auto-save on Photo-gallery edit page
The auto-safe functionality and Save and Continue button have been added on Photo Gallery edit page.
9. BBG Direct Images metadata update
We know how important the display of relevant dates is in our content so we extended information with our graphics on Direct. Now the user will see "Date Taken" which is an exact day when an image was shot.
10. Three new mobile applications
Three new mobile applications were released: Svoboda, Farda, and Ozodlik dedicated to respectively Russian, Persian and Uzbek audiences.
Applications contain all the features available in RFE/RL News application including MyNews, seamless PsiPhon integration, customizable widgets, and many other.
New applications use a new push notifications mechanism that offers not just faster and more reliable notifications delivery, but also audience segmentation, A/B testing, and reach media notifications.
11. TYPO Notifier
Your users will be in touch with you with the new feature - TYPO Notifier. Typo or any other mistakes can be reported.
How it works: user selects part of the text and press special keys combination - Typo notifier window will be triggered (can be called by clicking on the link in the bottom part).
Users reports will be forwarded to the e-mails (you can add as much of them as you want).
