Technical updates
This release brings further technical updates for Pangea CMS. Our main aims are unchanged from the previous 8.33 release:
- Lay the groundwork for future system upgrades and new functionality.
- Further optimize our codebase to improve speed and stability.
These updates impact background processes and the structure of our code but are not directly visible for users.
Simplified setup for Regions
The Right Responsive Region: Content types panel is no longer available on the Category edit page in Pangea CMS.
These settings allowed webmasters to control where an individual Region was displayed (on which types of content). We have removed this option for the following reasons:
- To simplify the Category edit page by removing redundant settings.
- To promote effective use of Regions on public websites (Regions are intended for use on simple text content pages that do not already include a lot of visual and interactive elements).
Now, Regions are only supported on the following text content types:
- Article | Blog | FactCheck | Feature | News | Transcript

Layout improvements on mobile web
Text overlay is no longer supported on mobile web. With this change, we aim to improve the appearance of pages on mobile web.
Text overlay is the practice of placing text over images. Because mobile screens are very narrow, text overlay can cause key parts of the image to be covered. For this reason, the text will now be pushed below the image on mobile web.
This change impacts the following elements:
- Content widget layouts that use text overlay
- Feature story title and main visual
- Embedded gallery pages (Photo gallery, Slider gallery, Static infographics)
On desktop, we continue to support text overlay.
Design improvements for the "Sites by region" page
We have optimized the design of the "Sites by region" page to better reflect the hierarchy of the different page elements.
You might notice the following changes compared to the old design:
- The regional divisions are capitalized and use a darker color to make these elements more prominent.
- The website names use a lighter color to make these elements slightly less prominent but still readable.
