Basic information
This article explains how to add a Source and a Photographer for an image:
- Source: The organization, agency, or entity that owns permission to use the image.
- Photographer: The image creator. For a photo, this is normally the person who physically took the photo.
When you manually upload a new image to Pangea CMS:
- It is required to add a Source.
- Adding a Photographer is normally optional. If "RFE/RL" is selected as the image Source, it is required to add a Photographer.
On the public site, the Source is displayed at the bottom of the image. If the image also has a Photographer, the name of the Photographer is displayed first with the Source afterwards in brackets. Adding the correct Source and Photographer for each image helps to avoid copyright issues and provides additional information for website visitors.
Upload an image
Go to Create > Multimedia > Image to upload a new image to Pangea CMS.
For detailed instructions, see the following article:
Add a Source
Under Source, select one Source for the image.
You can choose from the list of approved GDB (Graphic Database) Sources. If you need to add a new Source to this list, contact Pangea Customer Care. New GDB Sources must be added by the Pangea team.
Add a Photographer
After adding a Source, it is also possible to add a Photographer.
You see one of the following options:
- Photographer: Available for all Sources except "RFE/RL". You can optionally add a Photographer.
- RFE/RL Photographer: Available only when "RFE/RL" is added as the Source. It is required to add an RFE/RL Photographer. RFE/RL Photographers are employed by RFE/RL.
You can choose from the approved list of Photographers / RFE/RL Photographers. If the name you need is not listed, two options are available:
- Contact Pangea Customer Care to add a new Photographer to one of the approved lists ("Photographers" or "RFE/RL Photographers"). We recommend this action if the Photographer will be associated with more images in the future.
- Add a Custom Photographer. The Photographer will be associated with the current image only and will not be added to the approved Photographers list. This option is provided for one-off cases, where the Photographer will not be associated with more images in the future.
Add a Custom (Manual-input) Photographer
You can add a Custom (or "Manual-input") Photographer. The Photographer will be associated with the current image only and will not be added to the approved Photographers list. This option is provided for one-off cases, where the Photographer will not be associated with more images in the future.
TIP: Contact Pangea Customer Care to add a new Photographer to one of the approved lists ("Photographers" or "RFE/RL Photographers"). We recommend this action if the Photographer will be associated with more images in the future.
To add a Custom Photographer:
- Under Photographer / RFE/RL Photographer, select Manual input.
- Under Name of photographer, enter the name of the Custom Photographer.
Update approved Sources / Photographers
When you upload a new image to Pangea CMS, you need to select a Source from the approved list of GDB (Graphic Database) Sources. For Photographers, two approved lists are available ("Photographers" and "RFE/RL Photographers"). RFE/RL Photographers are employed by RFE/RL. The approved lists are managed by Pangea Customer Care.
