Customize the social media teaser for a content page

What's inside this article:

Basic information

When a content page is shared via popular social media platforms and messaging apps, a rich preview is normally generated. In the Pangea system, this preview is called a social media teaser.

NOTE: Rich previews of content pages are generated via social media platforms and messaging apps that support Open Graph metadata. This includes Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), VKontakte, Telegram, and more.

Each individual element in the social media teaser (such as the title), is generated as follows (if 1 is not filled, the data is taken from 2, and so on):

  1. The relevant field in the Social media settings for the content page
  2. The relevant field in the Website teaser settings for the content page
  3. The relevant field in the General settings for the content page

This article explains how to add Social media settings for a content page. From the Social media settings, control which elements are displayed in the social media teaser. For example, add a special title that is displayed in the social media teaser instead of the main title for the content page.

This article also contains information about automatic social media images.

Create a content page

This article assumes that the edit screen for the content page is already open in Pangea CMS. To learn how to create a content page from the beginning, see the following article:

Add Social media settings

To add Social media settings from the edit screen for a content page:

  1. Select Social media in the left panel.
  2. Add some or all of the available settings. For text content pages, you might select an automatic social media image.

The changes are not published until you hit Publish or Publish & close in the bottom-right corner of the edit screen.

Generate automatic social media images

IMPORTANT: Automatic social media images are only generated if this feature is enabled and configured for your site. To enable this feature, contact Pangea Customer Care.

Automatic social media images are optimized for promoting your content on social media. An automatic social media image includes the Main visual and title for the content page as well as your service logo.

Automatic social media images are generated for the following text content page types (if this feature is enabled and configured for your site):

  • Article
  • Blog
  • Feature
  • Feature story
  • News
  • Transcript

To generate automatic social media images:

  1. Ensure the title is provided, then add or change the Main visual.
  2. After 10-15 seconds, you see the message Social teaser image generated at the bottom of the screen. When you see this message, hit Social media in the left panel.
  3. Under Image, select the image you want to use.
  4. Under Title, optionally enter a special title to display below the image in the social media teaser. This stops the main title from appearing twice (on the image and below the image).

The changes are not published until you hit Publish or Publish & close in the bottom-right corner of the edit screen.

Every time the Main visual or title for the content page is changed, a new collection of social media images is automatically generated. However, the social media image is not replaced unless you manually select one of the new images. For more details, go to Update Social media settings.

Update Social media settings

From Pangea CMS, you can update the Social media settings for a content page at any time. However, if you make changes after the page has already been published for a longer time period, social media platforms will not recognize the new settings.

Facebook offers a Sharing Debugger tool, which lets you immediately refresh the sharing data for a page. After you use this tool, the latest sharing data will be visible via Facebook. The Sharing Debugger tool is freely accessible and does not require login or authorization. Go to the link below:

VKontakte also lets you refresh the sharing data for external pages. To perform this action, send an API request from a registered VK app. For details, see the following external articles from VK Developers Documentation:
