New Features

1. Program Landing Page

To improve presentation options for Media Zone archive we’ve prepared new functionality – Landing Page for Media Zone archive. Since this release you can assign a Landing Page to a specific Media Zone, which will have the full functionality of a Section page. It will also be possible to add a Branded Header to all the pages of a Media Zone, including the Landing Page.

In order to localize the tab "Home" please use the following config key:

  • Responsive.ZoneArchive.Menu.Home

2. Enlarged Images in Photo Galleries

After 7.22 release, it will be possible to enlarge photos in a Photo Gallery. Clicking on any photo will open a lightbox where the image from Photo Gallery page will be displayed in the highest available resolution. The user can then cycle through the pictures simply by clicking on the side arrows or by pressing the arrow keys on their keyboard. The description of the individual image will be displayed at the bottom of the image itself. In order to share or see the description of the Photo Gallery, the user will need to return to the page of the Photo Gallery.

3. Photo Galleries Embedded Inside Articles

Along with adjustments to photo galleries, it will now be possible to cycle through images of a photo gallery that has been embedded in an article without leaving the article itself. After clicking on the embedded teaser image (it will be possible to additional photo as a teaser, otherwise the first photo will be taken), the image will be displayed full display with the highest possible and behave just like enlarged pictures in photo galleries. The embed preview image will also include the label "Photo Gallery" and photo gallery's title along with a new icon depicting multiple images.

In order to localize the labels of the embedded photogallery please use the following config keys:

  • Responsive.Lightbox.GalleryCaptionPrefixText - default value: Gallery:
  • Responsive.Lightbox.PhotoGalleryTitlePrefixText - default value: Photo Gallery:
  • Responsive.Lightbox.SliderGalleryTitlePrefixText - default value: Gallery Compare:

4. Media Player Redesign

One of our main goals is to maintain the highest possible user experience of our audience. To achieve this, in this release we have focused on redesign of media player. All player options have been revamped to be more intuitive, seamless, and user friendly towards the most popular devices. This media player redesign is the first step toward a fully sticky player.

5. Live Streams highlights

We have enabled the live stream highlights for web users on all devices, which will display live navigation during a live show. In this live navigation, users will see a show title with a direct link to watch or listen to the show. If a service has more than one live show, there will be a LIVE badge with a drop-down menu where it will be possible to select the show of user's choice.

As part of the improvements to live highlights, we have also made changes to the breaking news highlight. In case of breaking news while there is a live show at the same time, only the breaking news will be displayed as a higher priority. The breaking news highlight has been restyled to be red.

6. Custom URL for Sections

To give the special option to promote Sections and Info-pages, we've developed functionality to create custom URL's for these pages. Since this release you can assign special short Custom URL to the page you want to promote somehow (to mention in a Social Network post, to place URL on the banner etc.). Examples of the URL’s you can create:

Any one page can be assigned only one custom URL, with the exception of Home page, which can not be assigned a custom URL.

7. Akamai Secure HD live streaming

Based on request from our users, we have implemented a new way of creating streaming channels to support Secure HD Akamai channels used for streaming restriction in certain world regions. Configuration of new tubes and channels can be done on request with assistance of Pangea administrators.

8. CMS 8.0 Sections Versioning

Pangea CMS now supports versioning for sections. This feature is available only for the new pages built with CMS 8.0 Beta Sections.

Editors will now have the possibility to have up to 2 versions of the same section or landing page, providing the services with greater flexibility in preparing the site for updates or when covering special events. Each section has a default version that is marked as active, which is displayed on live site. Other versions will be available internally in CMS.

Editors can create a new version of a section by cloning the original. Afterwards, it is possible to make changes, adapt the page to the needs of the event or day by adding widgets, moving them around or even altering the layout via layout builder. Once editors are done, they can share the live link with colleagues to review the changes. This link will expire after 15 minutes. When the version is ready, editors can mark it as active version, thus making it public on the website.

One neat feature of the versions is the widget clone connection, this means that once you create a version from a section, all widgets of the new created version are cloned from the source section, this allows to keep the new version up to date with content from source version. These widgets are identified with a label "Cloned". Once the content of a widget is modified, the connection to the original source widget is lost and the label "Cloned" stops displaying, making this widget independent from any other widget.

8. Adding Status to Audio Programs and Features

After this release it will be possible to control the status of Audio Programs or Features by selecting published or draft mode in the Audio Scheduler thus replacing hide from site functionality that used to be available in Audio Scheduler.

9. Moving Pangea CMS to HTTPS

In this release all the updates required in CMS to force HTTPS in CMS have been finished. We will be rolling out this as follow:

We will start the Process in Mid Feb with Libertynet, the Intranet for RFE/RL Managed by Pangea CMS. Once switched to HTTPS, we will be monitoring Libertynet to make sure everything works well. After that, we will contact entities VOA, MBN, OCB to coordinate the roll out of the HTTPS for CMS.

10. New Snippets

We implemented a new snippet for embedding videos from Social network Odnoklassniki.
