Template week - Managing video broadcasts

This article explains how to use the Template week tool to manage the schedule for video broadcasts that appears on the public website.

You can perform the following actions via Template week:

  • Check the schedule for regular video shows (a regular video show streams a new unique episode on the same day at the same time every week).
  • Create a new regular video show.
  • Edit the settings that apply for all episodes of a regular video show.
  • Manage when the updates you make in Template week are applied on the public website.
NOTE: To edit the settings for an individual episode, or schedule a one-off broadcast that is not linked to a regular video show, you need to use Scheduler.

Manage Video show settings

Refer to the sections below for information about the options on the New Video show / Edit Video show screen:

Set the input

If you are creating a new regular video show, choose your preferred option using the tabs at the top of the screen:

  • Live input: The input for each episode is taken from the streaming URL for the selected video tube.
  • Playlist: Add a pre-recorded video file that is used as the input for each episode.
NOTE: If you are editing an existing show, it is not possible to change the input for the show. You need to set the input when you create the show.

Add categories

You cannot save the video show until you assign it to at least one category using the Categories drop-down menu. Every episode of the video show is automatically assigned to the categories you select.

For more information, refer to the following article:

NOTE: You can assign a video show to a TV category. TV categories offer special settings that are designed to promote video content.

For detailed information about TV category settings, refer to the following article:

Manage general settings

IMPORTANT: We recommend that you do not adjust any of the settings listed below if it is less than 5 minutes before the show starts.

The following settings are required and must be completed before you can save the video show:

  • Day: Select the day when the show streams a new episode each week.
  • Start: Specify the start time for each episode (format: HH-MM-SS).
  • End: Specify the end time for each episode (format: HH-MM-SS).
  • Title: Enter the name of the show.
  • Description: Provide a short description of the show that is displayed on the public website.
  • Categories: Select one or more categories.

Optionally adjust the following additional settings:

  • Teaser image: Add an image that is used to promote the show via widgets on the public website.
  • Use teaser image as poster in the player: Tick this box to display the Teaser image in the video player before the video is played.
  • Record: Tick this box if you want to record episodes of the show. For more information, refer to Manage recorded broadcasts.
  • Record as: Select the status that is assigned to the recorded videos in Pangea CMS. For more information, refer to Manage recorded broadcasts.
  • Hide from site: If you record the episodes, tick this box to ensure that the recorded videos are not available on the public website.
NOTE: The settings above are applied automatically for every episode of the show. If necessary, you can adjust the settings for individual episodes via Scheduler.

Manage recorded broadcasts

If you want Pangea CMS to record each episode of the video show, tick the box next to Record in the general settings.

NOTE: To ensure that an episode is recorded correctly, it is essential to tick this option at least 10 minutes before it starts.

After a video broadcast is recorded, it is saved in Pangea CMS as a video. You can find the video using the Pangea CMS Search tool.

Manage multimedia distribution

NOTE: This option only applies if Live input is selected as the input for the video show.

As well as streaming via your website, you can ensure that every episode of the show streams via a specific YouTube channel and / or Facebook account.

IMPORTANT: To ensure that the show is successfully streamed via YouTube and / or Facebook, we recommend sending the streaming request at least one week in advance.

To request that every episode of the show is streamed via YouTube and / or Facebook:

  1. Scroll to the Multimedia distribution section.
  2. Select the account(s) where you want to stream the episodes. You can select a maximum of one YouTube channel and one Facebook account.
  3. Click Save to confirm and apply your preferences.

When you close and then reopen the edit screen, you see confirmation that episodes of the show will be streamed via the selected distribution partner.

Manage playlist settings

NOTE: This option only applies if Playlist is selected as the input for the video show.

You can optionally use a pre-recorded video file as the input for each episode. To use this option, we recommend adding a unique video file for each episode via Scheduler.

For detailed instructions, refer to the following article:

Apply Template week changes on the public website

When you make changes to the timetable in Template week, these changes are not immediately visible on the public website or in Scheduler (the timetable displayed in Scheduler always matches what is displayed on the public website).

You can wait for Pangea CMS to update Scheduler automatically, or you can update Scheduler manually.

IMPORTANT: When Scheduler is updated based on Template week, the data from Template week overwrites the existing data in Scheduler. This means a one-off broadcast that does not appear in Template week will be deleted if it is scheduled during the time period when the data from Template week is applied.

Automatic update

At the end of each day, Pangea CMS takes the Template week schedule for the current day and applies it in Scheduler two weeks in the future. For example, at the end of the day on Monday March 1st, Pangea CMS takes the latest Template week schedule for Monday and applies it in Scheduler for Monday March 14th.

If you need your changes to appear in Scheduler sooner, we recommend running a manual update.

Manual update

To manually update Scheduler with the latest data from Template week:

  1. Go to Scheduler > Scheduler & Template Week.
  2. Select Template week in the left panel.
  3. Click Update schedule.
  4. Define the following fields:
    • Starting day: The first date when the changes from Template week will be applied. It is not possible to select the current day.
    • Ending day: The last date when the changes from Template week will be applied.
  5. Click Update.

The latest data from Template week is now applied in Scheduler for the specified time period only.
